Brow Lamination, Tint or Wax: Which One You Actually Need

Brows are the service people most often book wrong. Someone wants fuller-looking brows, books a wax, and leaves with the same brows slightly thinner. Someone else wants a shape fixed and books lamination, which does not change the shape at all.

These are five different services that get used almost interchangeably. 49 home-based beauty vendors in Toronto publish brow and waxing prices on BuzzGram, across 477 individual services — enough to say clearly what each one is and roughly what it costs.

What each brow service actually does

Brow shaping or waxing removes hair. That is all it does. It cleans up the outline of what you already have. If your brows are sparse, shaping makes them neater, not fuller.

Brow tint dyes the hairs — including the fine, pale ones you cannot see — so brows read darker and fuller without anything being added. Lasts around three to four weeks.

Brow lamination is a chemical treatment that redirects the hairs, usually brushed upward, and holds them there. This is the one people mean when they say they want "fluffy" brows. It makes existing hair cover more area, so it is the closest thing to fullness without pigment or tattooing. Lasts six to eight weeks.

Threading is an alternative to waxing — a twisted thread pulls out a row of hairs. More precise on fine detail and gentler on reactive skin. Same result category as waxing, different method.

Microblading and powder brows are tattooing. Pigment is deposited in the skin and it lasts one to three years. This is a different category with a different price tier entirely, and we have deliberately excluded it from the figures below.

What do brow services cost in Toronto?

Typical published prices from home-based beauty vendors in Toronto, in Canadian dollars:

  • Body waxing — typically $25. Most between $10 and $40, depending heavily on the area. (15 vendors)
  • Brow tint — typically $40. Most between $20 and $52. (24 vendors)
  • Brow shape or wax — typically $50. (42 vendors)
  • Brow lamination — typically $100. Most between $80 and $120, making it the most expensive of the non-tattoo brow services. (33 vendors)

Threading is published by only six Toronto vendors in our data, which is too few for us to put a figure on. Where it does appear, it is generally the cheapest option on the list.

The spread on brow shaping is wide because some vendors list shaping on its own and others bundle it with a tint or a lamination under the same name. Ask what is included rather than assuming.

Across all brow and waxing services, the median listed price in Toronto is $50, across 49 vendors and 477 individual services.

Lamination sits at the top because it is the longest appointment and the only one using a chemical process with a real margin for error. A cheap lamination is the one place in this list where price is genuinely worth questioning — over-processing damages the hair, and it grows back over weeks, not days.

Which one should you book?

Match the service to what is actually bothering you:

  • "My brows are messy." → Shaping, waxing or threading.
  • "My brows are pale or patchy-looking." → Tint.
  • "My brows are thin and go in different directions." → Lamination, often with tint.
  • "There is a bald patch or a gap." → Microblading or powder brows. No amount of lamination creates hair that is not there.
  • "I want to stop doing them every morning." → Lamination plus tint is the common combination, and many vendors price it as a bundle for less than the two separately.

That bundle is worth asking about explicitly — it is frequently offered but not always listed.

How often will you be back?

The recurring cost matters more than the first appointment:

  • Shaping or waxing — every three to four weeks
  • Tint — every three to four weeks
  • Lamination — every six to eight weeks, and doing it more often than that risks over-processing

A vendor who tells you to wait longer between laminations is protecting your brows, not turning away work.

What to ask before booking

  1. Is shaping included in the lamination price, or separate?
  2. Do you offer lamination and tint as a package?
  3. Can I see healed photos a week after treatment, not just the same-day result?
  4. Is there a patch test for tint, and when do I need to come in for it?

The patch test question matters. Tint is a dye, reactions do happen, and a vendor who requires a patch test in advance is following the standard rather than being awkward.

How we got these numbers

We read the published price lists of home-based beauty vendors listed on BuzzGram, restricted to the Beauty category, and grouped services by what they are rather than what they are called. Microblading, powder brows and other permanent makeup were excluded, because tattoo pricing sits in a different tier and would distort every figure above.

All figures are Toronto listings in Canadian dollars, before tip. Each is a median of published list prices, shown with the number of separate vendors behind it. We do not publish a figure backed by fewer than eight vendors, which is why threading appears here without one. More on the method in how we calculate local pricing.

FAQ

How much does brow lamination cost in Toronto?

Typically CA$100, with most Toronto vendors between $80 and $120, based on 33 home-based vendors publishing a lamination price. It is the most expensive non-tattoo brow service because it is the longest appointment and the only one involving a chemical process.

What is the difference between brow lamination and microblading?

Lamination redirects and sets the hair you already have and lasts six to eight weeks. Microblading tattoos pigment into the skin to create the appearance of hair and lasts one to three years. Lamination cannot fill a bald patch; microblading can.

How long does brow tint last?

Around three to four weeks. It dyes the existing hairs, including fine pale ones, so brows read fuller without anything being added.

Should I get lamination or tint?

Tint if your brows are pale or patchy-looking. Lamination if they are thin or grow in different directions. Many people book both together, and vendors frequently price the combination lower than the two separately.

Is threading better than waxing for brows?

Neither is better overall. Threading is more precise on fine detail and gentler on reactive or sensitive skin; waxing is faster. Both remove hair and neither adds fullness.

How often can you get brow lamination?

Every six to eight weeks at most. Doing it more frequently risks over-processing the hair, which then takes weeks to grow out.
