How Much Does a Custom Cake Cost in Toronto?

Most Toronto home bakers' cheapest decorated cake costs between $55 and $80. A 6 to 7 inch cake that serves 8 to 12 people sits around $120, a mini or bento cake around $68, and a sheet cake for a crowd around $190. Those are medians from the published menus of home bakers in Toronto, pulled in October 2026.

The spread inside each size is wide, and three things explain most of it: how many people the cake feeds, how much decorating it carries, and whether it is stacked. This guide walks through each one with real listed prices.

The short answer

CakeTypical rangeMedian
Mini or bento cake (4 to 5 inch)$53 to $80$68
6 to 7 inch cake (serves 8 to 12)$84 to $168$120
Sheet or slab cake$145 to $242$190

The typical range is the middle half of listed prices: a quarter of bakers charge less, a quarter charge more.

Bigger cakes cost less per slice

One Toronto baker publishes servings next to every size, which makes the maths easy: a 4 inch cake is $55 for 4 to 6 servings, a 6 inch $90 for 8 to 12, an 8 inch $115 for 12 to 20, and a 10 inch $150 for 20 to 30. Going from a 6 inch to a 10 inch more than doubles the servings for about two-thirds more money.

So when your guest count sits near the top of a size, the next size up is often the better buy. It also explains why a bento cake is a treat for one or two people rather than a budget option for a party.

Height matters too. Another baker lists every size in a regular and a tall version, and the tall one is $10 more at every size from 4 to 10 inches. Too few bakers list an 8 or 10 inch price outright to give a typical figure, but the ones that do list 8 inch cakes from $85 and 10 inch cakes from $105.

Tiers are where the price jumps

Stacking is a separate job from baking. Each tier needs its own support, and a tall cake has to travel without shifting, so tiered cakes jump in price rather than climb. Listed two-tier cakes in Toronto start at $180 in buttercream, an 8 and 6 inch two-tier is $300 from another baker, and a 10 and 8 inch is $450. One baker lists three tiers at $310 in buttercream, and a simple wedding cake from another is $335.

If you need to feed 40 or more and the cake is not the centrepiece, a sheet cake plus a small decorated cake for photos usually costs less than a tall tiered cake, and nobody at the table can tell.

Fondant, buttercream and sculpted cakes

Fondant costs less extra than most people expect. One Toronto baker lists the same cakes in both finishes: fondant adds $10 to a mini cake, $5 to a one-tier, $10 to a two-tier and $15 to a three-tier.

Design is what moves the price. The same baker's sculpted cakes, shaped like a purse, a sneaker, a stack of money or a pillow, run from $150 to $325, against $125 for a plain one-tier. Photo cakes with an edible print are another step up: one baker lists a 10 inch photo heart cake at $225 and a two-tier photo cake at $300.

Not every celebration cake is a decorated sponge. Caribbean black cake, the dark fruit cake soaked in rum, is listed from $25 for a 6 inch to $75 for a 10 inch by one Toronto baker.

How far ahead to order

Give a home baker one to two weeks for a standard decorated cake, and more for tiered, sculpted or wedding cakes. Most take a limited number of cakes each week, so popular Saturdays fill first.

How to get an accurate quote in one message

  • Your date, and whether you need pickup or delivery
  • How many guests the cake has to serve, so the baker can choose the size
  • A reference photo of the design you want
  • Flavour, filling and any allergies
  • Buttercream or fondant, if you have a preference
  • Any writing on the cake, spelled exactly

Ask whether the listed price is a starting price. Some Toronto bakers write a size as "$90+", which means the design can raise it.

Where to find cake makers in Toronto

Most of the bakers behind these prices work from home and take orders through Instagram, so they rarely show up on Google Maps. Browse home bakers in Toronto to see their menus and prices. How we got these numbers

We read the published menus of home bakers listed on BuzzGram in Toronto in October 2026 and grouped cakes by what they are rather than what they are called. Cupcakes, cheesecakes, cake pops, loaf cakes and slices were left out. For each baker we took their lowest price for a size, then reported the median and the middle half across bakers.

A size only gets a typical figure when several bakers list it. Where only one or two do, we quote their listed prices and say so. All prices are in Canadian dollars, before tax and delivery. More on the method in how we calculate local pricing.
